RV Refrigerator Power Outage Tip

Here is a clever tip from reader Don regarding campground power outages and freezer safety:

The Ice Cube Test

Place a single ice cube inside a small paper or plastic cup and leave it in your RV freezer compartment. Check it daily while traveling or when returning from day trips away from the campsite.

If the freezer maintains constant temperature, the ice cube will retain its original distinct shape. However, if an unnoticed campground power failure occurs or the refrigerator flame blows out while you are away, the ice cube will melt. Even if power restores later and freezes everything solid again, the ice will now be a flat puddle at the bottom of the cup—giving you immediate visual warning that frozen food was compromised!
