RV Propane System Purging & Startup
When your RV has been in storage or idle for a while, air trapped in the copper supply lines can prevent major LP appliances (like the water heater, refrigerator, or furnace) from igniting smoothly on the first try.
The Stovetop Purge Method
When taking your RV out of storage, open the LP tank service valve slowly, then light one of the stovetop burners using a hand lighter or piezo sparker.
This simple procedure accomplishes two important goals:
- Purges Air: Bleeds trapped air out of the main supply trunk quickly.
- Visual Confirmation: Provides immediate visual verification that gas pressure is steady and flowing properly.
Once the stove burner ignites with a clean blue flame, proceed to light or switch on your other LP appliances. Always run this test a week or two prior to a planned trip so you have adequate time to address any regulator or valve issues before setting out!
