Replacing RV Trailer Suspension Bushings

Bushing replacement begins with the trailer jacked up safely and placed on heavy-duty jack stands. This allows the axles to hang freely so work can proceed smoothly underneath.

With tires and wheels removed, support the axle using a floor jack and remove the spring hanger bolt.

Drive out the old, worn-out bushing using the new replacement bushing as a driver.

There are 7 bushings per side on a standard tandem axle trailer (14 total). Always replace the spring hanger bolts and locknuts whenever installing new bushings.

Inspect all other components of the suspension system while disassembled. Worn-out shackles with elongated bolt holes will cause excess suspension play and uneven tire wear, and should be replaced immediately.
