Forum's new look

Postby Mickey » Wed Jun 22, 2011 8:04 pm

How many of you were surprised at the changes when you tried to open up the forum today? For me I didn't know what was going on but took a chance and re-registered. Must have caught Les just after he got the new software up and running as there were no post other than Les's saying there is new sw and still working on restoring the archives.

Any changes we should be aware of?

Do wish we could post pic files directly but realize that takes a lot more storage space.

Looks like I spoke too soon about attaching pic files. See bottom of page "Upload Attachment"

Hi Guys,

Looks like this are all back and running again.

PS - always remember to do a backup beforehand (I forgot to do that and it took about 6 hrs to reinstate the database)

Sure hope you were able to preserve our ban data. I've been adding to that list for years to keep the blasted spammers out of here.

I was certainly surprised to see the update... last time we had some big problems and one of our members had to salvage the data. I thought you swore off updates when that happened. ;-)

I gotta question.
To the left there are circles with what looks like print in them.
What's up with them? :?:

My guess is, that is just the symbol for a message thread. The ones that have red stars in them are threads that you haven't read.

Thanks Russ. Being color blind the tiny red star was less than a stand out.

No problem.

The more I look at it, I think the star might indicate threads in which you have posted.

This new look will take some getting used to, for me. I find it a little harder to read.

For me if the circles were solid when you have read all and like they are now if it contains new posts. Like you said it's about adjusting.

I have the same problem as Cal. A touch on the colour blind side, being red & green. What Cal said would work great for me also. But I guess we will have to suffer

Hey all,

This is a work in progress as everything is in life.

I had to do an update because I inadvertently deleted the whole forum (except the database) when I was "tidying" up.
Okay, oops!

Seems that the upgrade overwrote the old files and the flagenite was not compatible with the new fliggeramajig.
That seemed reasonable, (since I don't speak computerese), so I clicked on the upgrade button.
Okay, oops!

Yes, the last upgrade (5 years ago) was a disaster, but the software said we needed an upgrade. So, when you screw up royally, the next best thing is to go with the software recommendations, right?

Right ... the database is back and intact (I think), all users and posters are back, and our ban list is still there (thanks to Russ!)

So onward and upward!

At least we're getting some posts on the board ... :D

Hi Les

When I first visited the forum last week the database had not been restored yet. I had visions of March 2007. :( I still have the notes and files from that accident.
