Vibration sources

Postby mickman073 » Fri Aug 14, 2009 7:58 pm

I have recently encountered 2 seperate vibrations in my 88 Safari 34' XLT. One is when the generator, Onan 6.5, when running. Not really severe but just to the annoiance point. Are there any available mount and do these tend to go bad, Im guessing they do. The other is in the rear overhead Coleman A/c unit. Where might I get replacement compressor mounts for this? Any info is good info, thanx Mickey

Heyas,

You can probably get the generator mounts through your nearest Cummins Diesel dealer. Cummins owns Onan now.

The AC vibration is probably due to the AC mounting gasket compressing over the years. A new gasket is less than $20.00 on Ebay, but you (and a buddy) will have to remove the entire AC unit in order to replace the gasket.

Have a good one,

Haffie

I've not seen the compressor mounts for sale for a Coleman air conditioner and never seen any that seemed worn out. The usual cause for vibration in the air conditioner is mud dauber nests on the fan blades. You have to remove the shroud to check. They can be on the back side of the blades and hidden from view. They can even be on the squirrel-cage fan inside the sheet metal housing. If it's an active nest, though, you might get some complaints from those being evicted...

First off let thank Haffie and Gary for there quick responces. This weekend I crawled up top and check both units, no critters or nests. The compressor mounts on the rear unit looked quite deteriorated and Im going to replace. I have some rubber isolator bushings from fans and radiators that I have installed at the GM dealership I work at. Im also going to change the AC gasket. Ive been thinking, and listening, to the geset run while on rer air, I believe that the gen mounts are still good, checked them too, and that most of the vibration Im experiencing is the ac. Just feeling the genset since it is directly under the bed on the right side of the coach. Only good thing is that is the wifes bed its under, (we have ROb and Laura beds in the coach). Is a gallon an hour about right for genset consumption with one unit and tv running? Im fixing to sell this rig and I guess that it is a good thing to be staying in it while our house power is being redone, Im fixing all kinds of little problems in the coach that I would have had to do later. Thanx again, Mickey and Ill let youall know what happens, by the way Gary I know what you mean with the weather, we are west of Ft Worth and it is going on here too.

Gen usage is about right.
My manual says 3/4 gall per hour at half load.
My gen is a 4 kw so that is in the ballpark.

Thanx wiz, Ive got a 6.5 and am running both acs. Hopefully today the power will be back on at our house. But at least I got alot done on the coach before selling it, a few little bugs I wouldnt have found if we hadnt stayed in it. Now I might not want to sell.
