Montana & Wyoming Highways

Looking to see if anyone has travelled the number 2 from Kalispell over to Great Falls? I am planning on heading to Yellowstone and the Tetons and do not have a tow car. I want to know what type of elevations and whether 'Mathilda' will make it or not! Also, does anyone have suggestions for good camping spots? I've done some research but I'd like to hear your thoughts. Thanks

U.S. 2 from Kalispell heading East is a good road with fairly gentle grades. Don't think Mathilda will have a problem. As far as heading down to Great Falls, and Yellowstone, we have not been down that way, so can't help you there.

We have been to Yellowstone, but came in from the South, and left the park, heading East. Yellowstone and the Tetons are great, so plan to spend some time there if you can.

Have a great trip. :)

Jim,thanks for the info. Can you tell me how you got around yellowstone? I don't have a tow car so wondered how feasible it is with the motorhome. I am remotley contemplating booking into the Billings KOA and renting a car for a few days so that I can really have a good look see. Did you stay in the Jackson area? I am also headed south from Yellowstone into the Tetons. Thanks again,Kathy

Kathy,

We were there in October, and almost had the place to ourselves, and stayed at one of the park's campgrounds. (Dry Camping) We could have driven around in the MH without any problems. I would think that spring would also be OK.

If you are going during the summer months, (tourist season), I think you would have a problem finding places to park the RV, as the park gets really crowded. A rental car may be a good idea.

Have fun, :)

WE were there in June , 2 years ago, and stayed at the Grizzly RV Park.
Rented a Budget Rental Car for five days, and took it to all the tourist sposts, and the HIGH elevations that we did not want to take the coach to.
It will be much easier to park one car in a spot than look for four spots for a motor coach.

You'll have a grand time, go to Jackson Hole!

We have been there several times. The campground in Grant's Village is one the better ones. Not sure where else you are going in Montana, but the 7th Ranch in Garyowen is great! We have stayed at the Nuggett Campground in Northern Montana outside St. Regis. Nice park. Good for big RV's.
We stayed at the campground in close to Jenny Lake in Teton. The NPS park. It was great. good for big RV's.
Wyoming higways were very good. We were there in August and the weather was good. It will be cool in Yellowstone at night.
