Postby Jerry » Wed Jun 13, 2012 8:25 pm

I think just about all of todays 5th wheel have a hoist lift for their spare tire mounted under the rv. My gears apparently strip in mine and I have been all over the internet trying to find a replacement with out much luck. Anybody have any idea where I can find a new hoist or gear box.?

Heya,

First choice, contact the manufacturer. They could sell you a new unit or maybe even have a re-build kit for the damaged one.

Second choice, there is a list of RV salvage yards posted here in the General Area here. Start making calls and if you find any that are no longer in business, let the Admin here know so the name(s) can be removed.

Third choice, fabricate another method of carry your spare, like maybe a bumper mount for the rear of the 5ver.

Last ditch effort, secure it to the roof of the 5ver with tie down straps.

Good luck, Have a good one,

Haffie

dont know if they would work, but a lot of the mini vans and new pickups use such a system for the spares on the frames. I had a 90 dodge caravan and the spare either broke off or was stolen by cutting the cable. Anyhow as I recall the replacement cable system was about $25. I am going to mount (try to) something like it under the A frame of the TT to offset the weight of the gen and stuff I put on the back bumper.

Found one on eBay that looked like It could be adapted to work but got outbid at the last moment. It was from an older model S10 Chevy. I still haven't tried all the salvage yards so I'm still working thru that. Wouldn't think it would be that hard to find.
